Marmalade Time at Hay Barton B&B
We always love the start of a new year at Hay Barton: a fresh start, new resolutions, but mainly because it’s annual marmalade making time! January is defined at the farm by the smell of marmalade bubbling in a large pan on the Aga.
This year I have made 50 jars of Seville and Ginger marmalade, just in time to enter the Marmalade Awards at Dalmain Mansion in Cumbria. Our Hay Barton Bed and Breakfast Marmalade won a Bronze in 2022, a Silver in 2023, and a Bronze and Silver in 2024 for our Seville and Ginger. Let’s see what happens in 2025!
The Marmalade Festival has been going for 18 years with entries from around the globe. The money raised, so far over £320,000, goes to local Cumbrian hospices and hospice care at home, such worthwhile charities to support.
Happy New Year to all. We look forward to seeing you at Hay Barton in 2025.
