You love us

  • Welcoming and helpful.  The room had wonderful views, tastefully furnished and very spacious.  The breakfasts were out of this world with so much produce sourced locally.  Lovely homemade cakes at tea time.  10 out of 10 for the Jobsons and hope to revisit next year.

    10 out of 10

  • Over the years we have stayed in many of your recommended B & Bs and found most of them to be of a very high standard.  Hay Barton is in a league of its own.  Jill and Blair are wonderful hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble and who miss not a detail.  The bedrooms are beautiful, the sitting room with its welcoming log fires makes it feel like home, and the breakfasts, well, they are simply the best, with homemade granola and the best fresh fruit, not to mention the yellowest scrambled eggs we’ve ever seen.  The special welcome that Jill and Blair give their guests is further typified by the tea and cake server on arrival, and indeed on the second day we spent at Hay Barton.  We have stayed in some 5-star hotels that could not hold a candle to this wonderful place, we shall return.

In a League of its Own

  • Really wonderful accommodation, with tea and cake on our arrival and the most delicious, locally sourced breakfast, with homemade granola and yoghurt – a real treat.  No better accommodation could be sought in a good quality hotel.  Highly recommended.

    No Better Accommodation

  • We stayed in 4 Alistair Sawday Guesthouses recently, and Hay Barton stood out with charming comfortable accommodation, excellent breakfast, and warm and hospitable hosts.

    Hay Barton Stood Out

  • What an idyllic retreat!  Close by to Heligan and a stones-throw from many other gardens and a whole pick of beaches.  Our hosts were so warmly welcoming.  Every detail was attended to, and more.  From delicious afternoon tea and cake to suggestions for best local dinner picks; fresh flowers in our room and mini chocolate bunnies on our pillow on Easter Day!  Flor breakfast, plenty of fresh fruit and a delicious locally-sourced FULL English.  A bed so luxurious, large and comfortable our feet couldn’t hang off the end of this one! (and, magic! It 2made itself” whjile we deliberated over our crispy bacon!)  We brushed up on our tennis on the all-weather court, while the chickens spectated, clucking at our mis-hits and chuckling at our best efforts.  And then, oh! The bathroom.  Large, clean, bright, with an enormous 6-foot roll top bath, Egyptian cotton towels and aromatic bath foams.  This was bliss.  The most thoroughly relaxing break we’ve had in ages!

    An Idyllic Retreat!

  • A wonderful find, we’ll definitely be back!  The breakfasts were absolutely first rate, the mouth still waters at the thought!  The rooms were charming, spacious and had wonderful views.  Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for Jill and Blair, from staying up late (to let us in following a traffic miscalculation) to organising a full cream tea hamper!

    A Wonderful Find

  • We couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.  Despite our late hour of arrival, there was tea and home-made cake, and helpful assistance with places to visit and dining recommendations from both the owners and past guests.  Our rooms were fantastic – tastefully furnished, spacious and immaculately clean – and wonderful cotton sheets and towels.  Everything was so fresh, that we felt as if we were the very first guests to stay!  Breakfast was superb, with homemade granola and locally sources sausages, eggs, bread, etc.  We wouldn’t stay anywhere else when next visiting this part of the world.

    Wouldn’t Stay Anywhere Else

  • We were made very welcome from the moment of arrival until our departure.  The room was beautifully furnished and the bathroom big and brightly decorated.  Also, the sitting room was extremely comfortable.  All the little extras turned this from being a really nice B&B into a truly excellent one.  Jill’s breakfasts are a real delight and a great start to the day.  We will stay here again (and again) on our visits to Cornwall.

    Beautifully Furnished

  • We absolutely LOVE this place!  Jill and Blair are fantastic hosts. freshly baked cake at our arrival and the most beautiful room!  Breakfast is pre heaven – everything organic and homemade, the table is set beautifully and Jill spoiled us every minute of our stay …we will definitely be back!

    Fantastic Hosts

  • Welcoming, relaxed and accommodating hosts – Jill and Blair are kind, thoughtful and unobtrusive in their hospitality providing just what was needed in large, beautiful, comfortable bedrooms with equally huge bathrooms; almost full-length windows overlook the fields and there is a gusts’ sitting room (with fireplace) to relax in the evenings with a glass of wine.  I stayed for five nights and left reluctantly, it was perfect.  White Company towels, delicious home-made yoghurt and granola, free range chicken eggs.  Highly recommended.

    Thoughtful and Unobtrusive

  • Jill and Blair are very charming and the perfect hosts.  Excellent breakfast and great view out of the windows.  A spacious bathroom.  Worth staying more than two nights as we did.

    Charming and Perfect Hosts

  • We just loved it here.  You feel at home from the moment you step over the doorstep to the utterly unwanted moment of departure!  Upon arrival we were welcomed with a tea tray of delicious lemon sponge before going up to our room which was spacious, spotless and very pretty.  The en-suite bathroom had a magnificent claw foot bath and the toiletries supplied were high quality and generous.  Breakfast with fresh fruit and home-made granola was delicious and who would have thought that a boiled egg de-topper, an antique hand down from relatives, existed!  Friendly and patient hosts – thank you Jill and Blair.  Hope to see you again.

    We Just Loved It

  • We had a lovely three nights here.  Jill’s tea and cake drew us back every afternoon – delicious.  Her breakfasts are equally delicious, so you’ll need plenty of activity.  A work-out on the newly re-surfaced tennis court provides an opportunity to work off guilt or calories from the lovely food you are sure to consume.  Our room was very nice, fresh and clean; the bathroom was just as lovely with a long bath perfect for relaxing in.  Good places to eat nearby, but you do need a car.  We hope to return, thank you Jill and Blair.

    Breakfasts are Delicious

  • This is as good as it gets, we felt.  Jill and Blair Jobson are attentive and friendly hosts who run an exceptionally comfortable, well-provided B & B in a lovely part of the country.  Like other reviewers, we timed our walks to enable us to enjoy Jill’s delicious cake at tea-time!  Her breakfasts were also delicious and the rooms very comfortable and well supplied with little luxuries (not least the DAB Roberts Radio).  I’m a diabetic but don’t expect special treatment when staying away.  Jill had better ideas, however, and went out to get low-sugar jam and marmalade and even peanut butter.  This attentions to hospitable detail characterises Jill and Blair’s approach to their guests.  They combine a very welcome informality with an evident determination to be the very best.   We’d love to go back and have already recommended Hay Barton to friends and family.
